Imagine my surprise when I dropped by friend Erin's blog to find that she'd given me (among others) a Kick Ass Blogger Award. This award is a child of Mammadawg (love the description of Mammadawg... "She's sweet and motherly... and a growlin' bitch when need be..."). Anyway, I even get this:
Awards come with responsibilities. First, you have to read the instructions and follow the committee rules. Then, the hardest part, you have to choose just a few among your favorite bloggers to pass the award on to.
Those of us who blog know how hard it is. We tend to read a lot of blogs and have our favorites. To limit yourself to five takes courage. At least for me. So, I am pleased, surprised and grateful that Erin saw fit to even consider me. If she didn't have this award already, she'd be one of my five. Besides, she is a member of our special club "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Laptops."
To make it easy on myself, I'm limiting my list to women and men who are parents (no matter the stage). If you're not on this list, don't worry... who says I can't issue another list later??? Who says I can only offer up five people. I'll do six.
Ron: because he is one of the best, most loving and supporting fathers I know. He is interesting, funny, and smart. He built his life and career around his daughters and they are a testament to that. In addition to all this, you should hear his karaoke rendition of "Summer Nights." I think I have a picture somewhere.
Jer: Empty nester, mother, grandmother, stand up comedian, disaster relief professional, clinical social worker... and one of the most competitive people I've ever met, Jer's sense of adventure and love of life sets a standard for the rest of us. And I love her entire family. Go Jer!
Joanne: For a quiet person, she is one of the funniest people I know. She's a pseudo-empty nester, too (Thanks, Erin), with a daughter in college and a son in Rome as he studies for the priesthood. Check out her sister-site Cooking for a Cause. There hasn't been a post in a while because we've all run out of recipes and need some new ones.
Shannon: I love this blogger. And, I've grown to love her kids, too. I want to be one of them. She's probably already got a Kick Ass Blogger award. But, you can't have too many, I say.
Tad: Writer, Poet, Artist, Musician and Curator of Opus 40 (an amazing work of environmental sculpture), Tad (or "o" as we know him) is also a loving dad and granddad.
Virginia: Writer, Artist, Gardner, Cook, and, again, Adventurer. Virginia is another woman who reminds me (and soon you) that it's possible to raise fantastic kids, have a great marriage, and pursue your dreams. Speaking of which, her paintings are dreams.
There you have it. My list. I'm exhausted.

Cool. I'm honored. Or will be as soon as I read the rules and find out what I'm getting into. Thanks, Nance. Jer

Holy cow! I didn't know anyone besides my family (and Moobs and OTJ every once in awhile) even read me! I tell you, I about fell over when when I saw your comment just as I was putting up my first post in a month. I didn't even know I was on anyone's blog list! I'm going to have to stop slacking. And you can consider yourself adopted! Thank you very much!

It's an honor to be nominated by someone I admire so much.
Now to read the rules and pass it on...

Shannon -- I did note that you hadn't posted in a while, but no one understands better than I how hard it is to blog (especially with a family to run). I've enjoyed your blog for quite some time. :-) Blog on, girl, blog on!

Virginia -- the feeling is mutual. Actually, I can't imagine anyone admiring someone more than I admire you and how your live your life. Love.

Jer... don't stress yourself. Not like there's not a lot going on in your life. Still, you've been blogging longer than anyone I know personally and I've loved all your entries. Not as much as I love you, but still...

I'm so honored to be chosen by you, and to be in this company. And since you're honoring us as parents/grandparents, let me put in a plug for my wonderful grandson Arick and his (with friend Sirina) www.sitclickdrive.org website to promote seat belt safety.
