I'm trying to impose order and some sense of consistency in my life and my blogging. So, this is my second Weekly Round Up. I won't worry about whether I did this last on Friday or Saturday, but if I get it done at all, the day it gets done shouldn't matter. So here goes:
- The House: Not one visit this week. I met with my real estate agent who snapped out of her slump-in-the-market depression to notice for the first time that the carpet needs to be replaced.
Her: Well! This carpet will have to be replaced. Now. And, you must move everything out of the house. Your children, the pets, all your furniture except that, that and that.
Me: You just noticed this? How, during the last five months, every time we spoke, did you not understand when I asked, "Gee, do you think the carpet is a challenge?"
Her: I didn't look.
Me: Where were you actually looking when I led you to the spot you're looking at now FIVE MONTHS AGO?
Her: Now you're being disrespectful. (This is her catch phrase whenever someone makes a point in an argument.)
Me: [Silence, while I thought of satisfying, vengeful, and physically painful ways to fire her. I have a lot of suppressed rage. Do you think that's disrespectful? I don't.]
I have some hard thinking to do. Shall I just take it off the market and try again next year? Or, shall I just suck it up, continue to keep the house clean, fix things as I go and figure that eventually, the right person will come along.
The thing is, in fixing up the place to sell, I'm beginning to see its charm and value the equity I have in this place. We worked in the front and back gardens last weekend, too. I potted lots of pretty plants, so the porch, deck and beds are filled with fresh splashes of pink, blue, yellow and white. It was therapeutic.
- Middle child and youngest child still here. August 1 and August 18 will go down as two of the happiest days of my life. (Moving days for them!)
- With the help of my future son-in-law, who has to be the best sport in the whole world, we found the perfect blue material for the bridesmaids' dresses. I drove to see their new house last week (love it!) and we hit the local fabric store. Jon lifted bolts of material, held two or three of them up next to one another so we could ponder them, and sat quietly while we looked through pattern books for flower girl dresses, which will be made out of the same fabric as the bridesmaids'.
And then, Sunday night, I got word of Bob's death. See my two previous blog entries. I've said all I can say on that subject for now.
- I started my German lessons and was thrown off my study schedule for a couple of days, but I'm back on track.
- I went to see "Bat Boy" with middle daughter. It was a local production in which one of her best friends played two roles. Very interesting musical. Clever. With a message. I was touched. Mostly, I loved watching how much our friend and the others seemed to enjoy what they were doing.
I have lots to do at work this week. Was going to get a headstart and plow through some of it today and tomorrow, but my father called to say he's coming in. He got a call from Arlington Cemetery that the tombstone has been placed on my mother's grave. And, coincidentally, one of his and my mother's best friends from high school is in town visiting her daughter. It will be good to see him.
That's it for now.
